1945 – The Beginning
Founded as “Oleifici Del Papa”, Umbria Olii starts its journey in the heart of Italy, catering to the traditional demand for high-quality local oils. The company’s initial policy focuses on selling locally produced oil in bottles and demijohns.
1969 – Industrial Expansion
A pivotal shift in strategy leads to the construction of a state-of-the-art refinery and a rebranding to “Umbria Olii Srl”. This transformation positions the company among Europe’s leading refineries, responding to the growing industrial demand for oil in the cannery sector (tuna, preserved foods, etc.). The company’s new policy: mass production of high-quality oil for top-tier brands in the food industry.
1990 – Adapting to Market Evolution
With changing industry dynamics, Umbria Olii seizes an emerging trend: the global rise in olive oil consumption. Leveraging its economic strength, the company broadens its market approach, ensuring strict quality standards in its production processes.
1994 – Corporate Reinforcement
Umbria Olii evolves into “Umbria Olii S.P.A.”, with a fully paid-up nominal capital of €1,549,370.70. The company consolidates its leadership in the olive oil industry, riding the wave of continuous global market growth.
1997 – Diversification into Soap Production
To optimize the use of olive oil derivatives, Umbria Olii establishes I.S.I. Spa – Industria Saponiera Italiana, specializing in high-quality vegetable soap production.
1999 – Expansion into the U.S. Market
The company strengthens its international presence by increasing its nominal capital to €10,845,594.88 and launching Umbria Olii U.S.A., Inc., marking its official entry into the American market.
2000 – Strengthening Market Leadership
Annual business volume reaches €51.7 million, with €23.24 million from exports. Umbria Olii becomes a leader in the U.S. food service market and acquires Compagnia Alimentare Italiana Spa, specializing in spiced oils, condiments, sauces, and pasta.
2001 – 2005 – Continuous Growth
2001: Business volume hits €53.7 million (€24.16 million from exports).
2002: Growth continues with €64.5 million in sales (€25.8 million from exports).
2003: Revenue reaches €65 million, with €27 million from international markets.
2004: Expansion leads to €74 million in revenue and the launch of Olivella, a new brand focused on olive oil-based cosmetics (bar soaps, liquid soaps, moisturizers, creams ).
2005: Business volume soars to €80 million, with €41 million in exports.
2008 – Infrastructure Expansion
A new storage facility, Stock Sinergy, is inaugurated in Civitavecchia Port, Rome, featuring nine tanks of 750m³ each, reinforcing logistics and supply chain efficiency.
2009 – Consolidation and Global Integration
All divisions (industry, packaging, warehousing, and branding) merge into Umbria Olii International Srl, streamlining operations and enhancing global reach.
2010 – Strengthening Presence in the USA
A new subsidiary, Umbria Olii International USA, Inc., is established to further penetrate the American market.
2012 – Expansion in Spain
A second Stock Sinergy storage plant is built in Motril Port, Spain, with twelve additional 750m³ tanks, supporting growing European operations.
2014 – Reinforcing Global Leadership
Umbria Olii International Srl is restructured as “Umbria Olii International S.P.A.”, further solidifying its position as a dominant force in the olive oil industry.
2018 – Pioneering Organic Olive Farming
As a major shareholder, Umbria Olii International invests in developing the largest organic olive farm in Italy, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability and excellence in olive oil production.
2025 – Celebrating 80 Years of Excellence

The Art of Refining
Refining can be obtained via two different processes at Umbria Olii International S.P.A: physical and chemical (Patented Technology). The Daily Production of our Refinery Capacity is 180-200 metric tons per day for the Physical Process. 100 / 200 metric tons per day for the Chemical Process . Every single step & cycle is thoroughly analysed by our team of Analysis in our state of the art lab to assure the Quality and freshness. The refining cycle works 24 hours a day, 365 days a Year. The refining cycle is particularly respectful of the environment.
The Art of Blending
The majority of olive oils are a blend of many different varieties. In particular, Extra Virgin olive oil greatly differs in taste. Finding the right balance between sweet and peppery, bold and light requires knowledge and skills. Blending is the result of perfectioning this art of finding different flavours to create the perfect taste. Our aim is to foster the progress of real research and delevopment in the bleding process. Our studies started over 70 years ago and were passed from generation to generation to share its value with the world.

Umbria Olii International's Environmental Management System was certified in accordance with the requisites of the international UNI EN ISO 14001: 2004 standards by SQS ITALY, a certification body. ISO 14001 certification granted by an accredited independent organization demonstrates concrete effort to minimize the environmental impact of its processes, products and services and attests to the reliability of its applied environmental management system.
